ABOUT TECTONIC

PUSHING THE LIMITS
OF AUDIO

Improvements in sound technology are one thing. Changing the way we hear it altogether is another.

DISRUPTION IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT

From removing the cone diaphragms found in traditional speakers to the use of 21st century bending wave modal technology, Tectonic leads the charge in ground-breaking audio innovation. Hear the difference in the crystal-clear voice intelligibility and wide directivity achieved in our Distributed Mode Loudspeakers (DML) and devices that utilize our Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) drive units and exciters.

Our Story

Our technology story began with research conducted by the British Ministry of Defense that was quickly snapped up by a conglomerate of audio companies in the United Kingdom. Recognizing the potential in an early embodiment of the technology, NXT was formed to research, develop and commercialize the technology. In 2012, Tectonic began to further the research and development focused around solving the problems of intelligibility and coverage in public spaces.

Original DML Basecase Patent Filed

1996

Patent described the core methodology required to turn a flat panel into a DML.

DML Research

1997

For the five years following the basecase patent filing, extensive work was done by a team of physicists and mathematicians to understand bending wave modal technology for audio applications.

Core Balance Mode Radiator (BMR) Patent Filed

2006

Core BMR patent was filed, with the rights later acquired by Tectonic. BMR provides similar intelligibility and coverage benefits as DML, but is better suited for smaller applications.

Tectonic Launches Professional Series Distributed mode Loud Speaker

2012

Tectonic Audio Labs acquires the rights to DML for sound reinforcement and launches its first professional DML in market, the PL-12.

DML Patent Filed

2016

Building upon the original DML basecase patent, Tectonic files the patent, Audio Transducer Stabilization System and Method, which delivers stability at high power levels, through defined placement of exciters on a panel.

Smart Home Integration

2018

Tectonic Audio Labs completes their first smart home application utilizing a BMR in a voice enabled loudspeaker in the First Alert Onelink Safe and Sound Smart Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm.
